About the Speaker

Clarkson’s 16th president, Anthony Collins is a regional and national advocate for higher education – industrial partnerships that couple research discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise for commercialization and economic development with a focus on advancing sustainable energy solutions and environmental technology innovation.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed Dr. Collins in July 2011 to serve as co-chair for the North Country Regional Economic Development Council. He is the also the president of the Seaway Private Equity Corporation that invests in new technology companies based in St. Lawrence County, New York, and is a member of NYSERDA’s Technology & Market Development Advisory Committee. Mr. Collins is also active in efforts to help expand broadband in New York State.

3rd Annual Advanced Manufacturing Conference – What’s Next?

The Center for Automation Technologies and Systems (CATS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) are partnering to host the third annual Advanced Manufacturing Conference. The day-long conference, themed “What’s Next?” will be held October 14, 2015 at The Desmond Albany Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, NY.

The Conference will bring together leaders from industry, government and academia to explore emerging ways to leverage advances in manufacturing technologies and systems, along with business best practices, to speed innovation and commercialization, cost-effectively onshore manufacturing, and better compete in the global marketplace. It will feature workshops and discussions on leading-edge topics in Materials Processing and Manufacturing Systems. The Conference will also feature key topics in business-focused sessions and training.

New for this year’s Advanced Manufacturing Conference, a Networking Session specific for Job Opportunities in Manufacturing. This will be an informal event designed for manufacturers to meet directly with local engineering students interested in internships and careers in manufacturing. Also planned for the Conference is a Poster and Exhibits Session featuring a broad array of industrially focused projects and areas of research, offering an opportunity for one-on-one interaction with student and faculty researchers, industrial researchers, numerous networking opportunities, and examples of successful university-industry partnerships.

Featured Keynote Speaker:  Wayne Frost, President of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

Frost retired from John Deere Waterloo Works after a successful 37-year career.  He served two terms on the SME Board of Directors from 2004-07 and two terms from 2008-12.

Currently, he is the president-elect of the Executive Committee, a member of the Audit and Finance Committees, and is a membership consultant for senior chapters in northern Iowa.  Frost previously served as vice-chair of the Region Chairs Committee and as a member of the Certification Oversight & Appeals Committee. He served the former Region 9 as chair, chair-elect, treasurer, secretary, leadership training coordinator and certification committee chair. Frost has received the Award of Merit, President’s Award, Region 9 Olin Simpson Award, the Waterloo Chapter 186 Kurt E. Lear Award and the John Deere General Manager’s Award.

Frost received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. Member Since 1983
