Saratoga County was New York’s sixth fastest-growing county for housing units in 2024, according to a Center for Economic Growth analysis of U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Between July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024, the eight-county Capital Region’s inventory of housing units increased by 2,039 (0.4 percent) to 542,470. That was the third largest annual increase in housing units among New York’s 10 economic development regions, trailing the Hudson Valley (4,465) and New York City (31,504).
Driving housing unit growth in the Capital Region was Saratoga County, which saw its inventory increase by 817 (0.7 percent). While that was the state’s 12th largest increase by volume, it was the sixth fastest growth rate. In 2024, Saratoga County also had the state’s second largest increase in the annual number of municipality-approved single-family building permits (+154)
Rensselaer and Albany counties were the Capital Region’s next fastest-growing counties for housing units, increasing by 0.3 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
CEG Initiatives
To help the Capital Region retain students who attend any of its 22 colleges and universities as well as others who participate in internships at local businesses, CEG hosts the CEG Summer Internship Engagement Program. The program is a dynamic series of free events and networking opportunities designed to help interns grow professionally and personally during their summer in NY’s Capital Region. The purpose is to help the interns learn about living and working in the region; to supplement the work they’re doing for their internship and enhance their overall internship experience. The 2024 CEG Summer Internship Engagement Program featured five events throughout the Capital Region’s core counties, with more than 120 unique registrants from several local companies.
