For the first time in seven years, Startup Tech Valley (SUTV) is returning to Schenectady, with a lineup of five entrepreneurs from across the region who will pitch their businesses.
First launched in 2013, SUTV is a community-driven startup networking and pitch event series that provides an opportunity for founders to pitch their businesses to an audience that typically includes more than 200 people, including other entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, mentors, students, employees of startups, and service providers to startups. SUTV’s organizing partners include Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Innovate518, the Center for Economic Growth, Troy Web Consulting, Agora Media, and BrandedAF.
Register for SUTV at the Museum of Science (MiSci) in Schenectady on May 14 here.
Below are profiles of startups that will make pitches at the SUTV event.
Through their Schenectady startup, Guide Genetics, Matthew and Bonnie Liebers are leveraging their combined experiences in the medical profession to improve access and efficiency in clinical genetics. The startup’s platform streamlines family history collection, risk assessment, and care coordination, allowing providers to see more patients while maintaining high clinical quality. Moreover, Guide Genetics is also leaning into the exponential growth in adult genetics, from wellness/concierge medicine, to cardiogenomics, neurogenomics and other high growth areas.
Matthew and Bonnie have developed a solution that integrates into existing clinical workflows and can deliver immediate, measurable value for health systems, employers, and screening programs. In the next 12 months, Guide Genetics expects to sign million-dollar contracts and to establish an international footprint. The startup also expects to potentially raise a seed round of funding, with select equity partners.
Earlier this year, Emily Vincent launched LivestockDoc, Inc. out of her 350-head sheep farm in Berne. The startup is developing a hands-free, voice-guided platform designed to support—not replace—veterinarians by helping farmers make safer, more informed decisions in real time. LivestockDoc will serve as a pocket guide for both veterinarians and producers, empowering them with fast, practical support in critical moments.
The platform will include a dedicated vet-facing portal where veterinarians can log in, monitor their farms’ active treatments, and track health data over time. In the next year, Emily plans to build and launch a minimum viable product (MVP) and begin on-farm pilot programs. She will also integrate veterinary-reviewed decision pathways into the platform. LivestockDoc will beta test the platform with a network of New York sheep farmers.
The Glenville-based startup is developing a platform that will help commercial and industrial building owners, managers and developers make the right energy investment before they commit capital by analyzing multiple energy options rather than one in isolation. Founded by David Lovelady, who has a decade’s worth of experience working in the energy industry, the startup will also integrate tariffs, incentives, and grid participation opportunities into a single financial view, helping uncover value that is often missed in traditional analyses.
Over the past year, LovEnergy has developed and launched its initial platform modules, including a battery storage incentives tool, and successfully completed early pilot demonstrations with industry stakeholders. The startup also refined its product positioning and has begun building a pipeline of real-world projects to validate and scale the platform. In the next 12 months, David aims to convert pilot projects into paid engagements, develop its first full case studies, and expand the platform’s capabilities with an expanded investment library and optimization capabilities.
Resolved Motion is a Cobleskill startup positioning Schoharie County as a key source of domestically designed and manufactured actuators, which convert electricity into mechanical motion for robotics. Beyond designing custom actuators, Resolved Motion is developing the underlying manufacturing innovations. That includes proprietary copper winding, specialized coatings, U.S.-sourced non-neodymium magnets and improved bearing systems that enable the scalable production of tens of thousands of precision actuators in the United States.
Resolved Motion is finalizing mechanical design, completing the electrical system and integration suite, and filing patents covering the actuator components and its process innovations. The startup’s CEO, Christopher Vitale, plans to acquire a Schoharie County facility, with the first production units are anticipated to be delivered to design partners by mid-2027.
During her 20-plus years of advising global companies and social enterprises on corporate responsibility and social impact, Tamara Tepper kept seeing a gap between how people want to “shop” their values concerning the environment, health or social issues, and knowing where to shop. Recognizing that artificial intelligence can help fill that gap, Tamara founded WAYV, a Saratoga Springs startup that aims to make it easy and enjoyable to find values-aligned products, without sacrificing style or quality.
In the last 12 months, WAYV built and launched a live minimum viable product (MVP) in private beta, developed an initial brand evaluation framework, and began onboarding early creators and brands. The startup also started testing user engagement through pilots and refining its positioning based on real feedback. Over the next 12 months, Tamara plans to move from private beta to a broader launch, expand brand and creator partnerships, and demonstrate strong engagement and retention.
CEG INITIATIVES
The Center for Economic Growth is working to spur and support startup activity, especially in the semiconductors, biotechnology, clean energy, and software development industries.
