Gov. Kathy Hochul last week announced the selection of the Center for Economic Growth’s application for a $40M One Network for Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships (ON-RAMP) center in the Capital Region. CEG is acting as the project lead on behalf of a regional consortium of training and support providers, private industry, and workforce development boards to train the region’s future manufacturing workforce.

The region’s ON-RAMP hub will be based in the City of Albany at a building on the former College of Saint Rose campus. There, unemployed and underemployed participants will receive industry-informed foundational technical and non-technical training, be matched with support services, and connect to careers in manufacturing. CEG selected the Saint Rose site as the hub for the Capital Region’s ON-RAMP because of its centralized location among Albany neighborhoods and access to the other communities in the region via CDTA Bus Rapid Transit.

CEG will lead the regional consortium of industry partners, including GlobalFoundries, Plug Power, GE Vernova, NSH USA Corporation, Phillips Healthcare, NY CREATES, P1 Industries and Regeneron and training/community partners Hudson Valley Community College, SUNY Schenectady County Community College, SEAT Center (Social Enterprise and Training Center), Capital Region Workforce Development Board, Questar III BOCES, Capital Region BOCES, United Way of the Greater Capital Region, and many more.

The Capital Region was one of three upstate regions selected for the competitive ON-RAMP awards. Monroe Community College was selected to lead the Finger Lakes’ ON-RAMP and Mohawk Valley Community College was selected to lead the Mohawk Valley’s ON-RAMP. Prior to each region receiving $40 million in implementation funding, they will receive $300,000 grants to develop detailed plans for their ON-RAMP centers. The ON-RAMP program is modeled after the Northland Workforce Development Training Center in Buffalo, and CenterState CEO is in the process of developing the first ON-RAMP center in Syracuse.

“ON-RAMP ensures that people living in our communities have robust support, including stipends, childcare, and transportation to access training and ultimately a career in manufacturing. CEG is proud to act as the project lead on behalf of a regional consortium of more than 60 initial partners to build a seamless network of workforce training and service providers to connect individuals with in-demand jobs at high-growth manufacturers. Thank you, Governor Hochul, for your leadership in growing New York State’s advanced manufacturing workforce,” said CEG President and CEO Mark Eagan.
