SUMMARY:CNY STEM Scholarship Program
DESCRIPTION:Partners for Education & Business\, Inc. (PEB)\, an affiliate of MACNY\, has announced a record year for local employer-sponsored scholarships. Regional high school students can now apply for four-year college scholarships in Architecture\, Automation Engineering\, Chemical Engineering\, Computer Science\, Electrical Engineering\, Mechanical Engineering\, Nursing\, Process Engineering\, and Software Engineering. \nThe CNY STEM Scholarship Program\, endorsed by the CNY Tech Sector and the CNY STEM Hub\, was launched in 2013 and is open to high school seniors intending to major in the areas listed above. Residents of Cayuga\, Cortland\, Madison\, Oneida\, Onondaga\, Oswego\, and Tompkins counties are eligible to apply. This year multiple scholarships are being offered by eight local companies: Cooper Lighting Solutions; INFICON; King+King Architects; Loretto; Novelis; SRC; Marquardt; and TTM Technologies.  \nMarianne Ferris\, the coordinator for the program\, said\, “The scholarships continue to evolve because of the commitment from local employers to find this region’s best and brightest\, assist with their educational expenses\, and ultimately offer them internships and full-time positions right here in Central New York.” \nOver the past nine years\, PEB has awarded 65 scholarships with a total value of $706\,000. This year\, PEB is adding a record 14 more scholarships with an additional value of $128\,000. \nINTERESTED STUDENTS CAN COMPLETE AN ONLINE APPLICATION HERE>>  \nThe deadline for applications is March 1\, 2022. Each month will feature a new topic led by industry experts who will share insights and provide valuable knowledge and tools to help your organizations learn and grow. \nIn this Knowledge @ Noon monthly series the *Manufacturing Innovation Network will explore the significance of effective onboarding\, a critical process for organizations that helps to increase employee engagement\, reduce turnover rates\, and improve productivity by providing structured support and training for new hires.  \nStatistics on the importance of onboarding: \n\nAccording to a survey conducted by Careerbuilder and Silkroad Technology (nine percent\,) or 1 in 10 have left a company because of a poor onboarding experience\, and 37% percent of employees said their manager did not play a critical role in their onboarding experience support.\nWithout proper onboarding procedures increases in employee turnover and loss of productivity occur. This decreased employee engagement costs companies large sums of money every year.\nWhen a company has great onboarding 69% of employees are likely to stay for at least 3 years.\n\nSHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management): \n\n69 percent of employees are more likely to stay with a company for three years if they experienced great onboarding.\nNew employees who went through a structured onboarding program were 58 percent more likely to be with the organization after three years.\nOrganizations with a standard onboarding process experience 50 percent greater new-hire productivity.\n \n\nSpeakers:  \nMary Malone McCarthy is founder and CEO of M3 Placement & Partnership\, a national executive search\, talent acquisition\, and strategic HR firm. Do you enjoy working with your\nhands\, and want to be part of building something?\nAdvanced manufacturing may be the industry for you! The Center for Economic Growth\, in\npartnership with Hudson Valley Community College and the Capital Region Workforce\nDevelopment Board\, are offering a pre-apprenticeship program to introduce individuals to\nfoundational technical and professional skills needed to find a role in the manufacturing industry.\nThroughout the program\, participants have the opportunity to tour and interview with local\nmanufacturers for rewarding\, sustainable roles! \nREGISTER HERE
