Waterfront to spur growth

Construction to heat up in Rensselaer County, especially along Hudson, developers predict  
  
SCHODACK -- Rensselaer County is positioned to be the Capital Region's next construction hot spot, members of a panel discussion on economic development said Tuesday.
And that growth is likely to occur along two transportation corridors: Interstate 90 and the Hudson River.

  
"The waterfront is the key to our development" plans in Troy, said Kevin Bette, president of Latham-based First Columbia, which is proposing to remake 25 city blocks in the so-called Hedley District with a new promenade, a hotel and office buildings.

Panelist John Nigro talked about the massive development his firm, Nigro Cos. of Albany, has proposed along I-90 near Exit 9 in East Greenbush. The Village at Temple Farms, as the development is called, is proposed to include 375,000 square feet of retail, including a Lowe's home-improvement store, 329 apartments and town homes, and a hotel.
