CENTER FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 10, 2008

Albany, N.Y. – New York state companies, academic institutions and economic development organizations will comprise the NY Nanotech delegation at SEMICON West 2008 from July 15 through 17 in San Francisco. More than 80 professionals will represent the state’s resources to more than 20,000 attendees from the nanotechnology, semiconductor and photovoltaic industries.

“Each year, SEMICON West provides us with an opportunity to market New York state’s abundant resources and favorable technology climate to an influential audience of semiconductor industry leaders from around the world,” said F. Michael Tucker, CEG’s president and CEO. “This year’s addition of a panel discussion, as well as the creation of a new industry award, further enhances our position as a global leader in the field of nanotechnology.”

NY Nanotech will host a panel discussion, “New York: Accelerating the Nanoelectronics Era,” for more than 300 people on Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. in the Novellus Theatre at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Panel participants, including representatives from Vistec Lithography Inc., Stony Brook University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), will discuss the evolution of New York state’s nanotechnology industry, as well as the opportunities available for organizations in the industry.  After the panel discussion, NY Nanotech will also confer the first-ever Excelsior Award, which will be presented annually to a prominent industry leader with ties to a New York state institution of higher education. “Conferring this award helps raise our visibility within the industry while also underscoring the strength of the state’s academic institutions, which have graduated many students who now hold leadership positions throughout this global industry,” said Tucker. The panel discussion and Excelsior Award are co-underwritten by the Center for Economic Growth, the Marcy NanoCenter and National Grid.

National Grid is also the major sponsor of NY Nanotech, as well as this year’s delegation to SEMICON West. “Partnering with companies and other organizations from around the state on an event of this magnitude allows us to maximize exposure and networking opportunities for everyone involved,” said Art Hamlin, National Grid’s director of economic development for Upstate New York. “New York state continues to be a driving force behind U.S. competitiveness in nanotechnology and associated industries, and working with a variety of strategic partners will accelerate our technology-based growth.”
