ALBANY, N.Y. – The Center for Economic Growth (CEG) announced today that Bioconnex, a region-wide biotechnology partnership of private companies, higher education institutions and CEG, will be chaired by Taconic’s CEO and President, Todd Little.
The goals of Bioconnex are to strengthen the competitiveness of the Capital Region and Tech Valley as the premier global location for biotechnology research, education and industry, increase networking and collaboration within the biotechnology community; develop partnerships between higher education institutions and the biotechnology business community; and assist the biotech community in working together to address workforce, recruiting and relocation needs.
“I look forward to continuing my involvement with Bioconnex” said Todd Little. “The organization has delivered value to the Tech Valley biotechnology community over the past 6 years. The opportunity to create a routine interface for people from government, academia and commercial entities focused around a shared interest in biotechnology has been positive for our region.”
Currently, Tech Valley is home to numerous biotech companies including AMRI; Taconic; and Regeneron as well as cutting-edge biotechnology programs and research being conducted at the Ordway Research Institute; Albany Medical Center; Albany College of Pharmacy; University at Albany; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and Wadsworth Center.
CEG will continue to facilitate the program. “With leaders like Todd Little, and the other committee members, CEG is able to form a great partnership with the regional biotech community,” said F. Michael Tucker, President and CEO of CEG. “We certainly welcome his vision and experience and are looking forward to 2010.”
Since its inception, in 2003, Bioconnex forum events have attracted outstanding attendance with hundreds of individuals since its beginning. Collaborative projects have resulted from these events. The monthly newsletters help the community stay connected and the network has proven to be a focal point for the regional biotechnology community. Bioconnex has also been involved in showcasing members at BIO International and other exclusive events.
