The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) is a fully-integrated research, development, prototyping, and educational facility that provides strategic support through outreach, technology acceleration, business incubation, pilot prototyping, and test-based integration support for onsite corporate partners including IBM, TEL, Applied Materials, ASML and International SEMATECH, as well as other “next generation” nanotechnology research activities. CNSE has over 300 global corporate partners to date, and more than 2,600 R&D jobs on site.
There is currently construction underway for the newest expansion of CNSE: NanoFab Xtension, a $300 million project.
The most recent expansion of the CNSE prior to this was was completed in March 2009. The $150 million project includes NanoFab East, a 250,000-square-foot office, laboratory and classroom building, and NanoFab Central, a separate 100,000-square-foot building that houses 15,000 square feet of 300mm wafer, class 1 capable cleanroom space.
CNSE’s $14 billion complex totals 800,000 square feet of cutting-edge facilities with 85,000 square feet of 300mm wafer, class 1 capable cleanrooms. The current expansion will add 500,000 square feet of facility spafce, and 50,000 square feet of cleanroom space.
