Fab 8’s chip success ripples far away

“As GlobalFoundries starts making next-generation computer chips using cutting-edge 7 nanometer features at its Fab 8 computer chip factory in Malta, the company is getting ready to turbo-charge its manufacturing line using a new technology.

It’s called extreme ultraviolet lithography, and GlobalFoundries is buying four of the machines, which print chip designs onto silicon wafers, from a Dutch company called ASML.”

An organic community farm grows in Tannersville

“Nestled within a thick, icy sheet of snow, vegetables are sprouting inside Tannersville’s new temperature-controlled 8,000-square-foot community greenhouse, ready for the spring market season.

The Fromer market garden, a project by the nonprofit Hunter Foundation, includes a high-tech Canadian-model double greenhouse, built last summer, and a renovated barn and barn apartment on a 12-acre property on Main Street in Tannersville.”

Prototyping center, manufacturing incubator open in Troy

“The Tech Valley Center of Gravity celebrated the opening of two new on-site facilities recently with a double ribbon cutting ceremony.

The celebratory event marked the official launch of the downtown makerspace’s new prototyping center and manufacturing incubator.”

Albany, Troy, Schenectady, others share more than $11 million in state development grants

“More than $11 million in state grants announced today will help pay for the new home of Capital Rep in downtown Albany, New York, and nine other development projects in the region.

The list includes demolishing the old First Prize meatpacking plant near Exit 5 of Interstate 90; new, mixed-use buildings in downtown Schenectady and Troy; and a new farmer’s market in Glens Falls.”

Developer eyes Schodack for mega-warehouse project

“An Indiana-based real estate developer is pitching plans for a million-plus-square-foot warehouse between Interstate 90 and Route 9 in Schodack. But the potential tenant remains a mystery.

Scannell Properties has filed conceptual plans with the town for a 116-acre site, located off Hillcrest Avenue, that would include a warehouse, along with parking for more than 1,200 workers and 366 tractor trailers, as well as 93 loading docks.”

Galesi Group spending $5 million to expand Rotterdam warehouse

“The Galesi Group will spend more than $5 million building a 100,000-square-foot addition at an industrial park in Rotterdam, New York.

The addition will be built at Building 9 in the Rotterdam Corporate Park in Schenectady County.”

Capital Rep will move into new, $8 million theater in Albany

“Capital Repertory Theater in Albany, New York, will move into a new, $8 million home in December 2019, enabling the professional theater troupe to have more seats, two separate performance spaces, and offer more educational programs.

Most importantly, the theater — rebranded as theREP — can make major investments in a building it owns and consolidate its operations at 251 N. Pearl St.”

Business Leaders Discuss Strong Saratoga County Economy

“Local business leaders from across Saratoga County gathered Thursday to get an economic update on the county, which is experiencing increased investment and growth.

Saratoga County is the fastest-growing in New York. Its unemployment rate is below the national average. Median household income and home building are up.”
